Senior Reservoir Engineer/Petroleum Engineer

Our client, an operator based in Aberdeen is currently recruiting for a Senior Reservoir Engineer on a contract or permanent basis.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, maintenance and history matching of fit-for-purpose dynamic reservoir simulation models for operated and non-operated fields as required. Utilise classical reservoir engineering techniques such as material balance and decline curves as appropriate to support the models.
  • Develop or maintain the reservoir management strategy for assigned operated fields, set production targets, carry out day to day well surveillance and ESP monitoring and manage the well-stock and ESP to deliver the strategy and maximise value delivery. Carry out well performance modelling and reviews and production allocation utilising available surveillance data.
  • Develop short term and life of field production forecasts and reserve booking profiles for input into lifting schedules, business unit report, CAD and year end reserves.
  • Identify and drive opportunities for reserves progression and increased production from the assigned producing assets and associated near-field opportunities with a view to maximizing value and reserves for the company. Update and document identified opportunities in the opportunity hopper regularly.
  • Assess opportunities for future infill wells, workovers and near-field exploration targets and prepare well recommendations, well planning documentation and AFEs as appropriate.
  • Perform (and/or manage) relevant Reservoir Engineering and Petroleum Engineering studies (e.g. PVT, core, well test) where required.
  • Work as an integrated team member with geoscientists and drilling, production and operations engineers to plan and design development wells, monitor well tests and field performance and optimise production.
  • Active participation in relevant external reviews (e.g. OGA), JV meetings, finance providers and other ad-hoc technical meetings, representing the company as operator.
  • Planning and preparations as and when required.
  • Provide peer assist support and hands-on technical support to other asset teams and BD initiatives as required. Mentor less experienced reservoir engineers

Education, Qualifications & Experience


  • A degree in Engineering or a related discipline. Preferably a post-graduate qualification in Petroleum Engineering or related discipline.

Skills / experience:

  • Substantial experience as a Reservoir Engineer with an E&P Operator working on a broad range of operated development and production projects. Preferably both oil and gas fields.
  • Substantial experience in dynamic modelling, history matching and sensitivity analysis using Eclipse (or similar) software.
  • Track record of successful production operations reservoir engineering support, manging producing well-stock on a daily basis. Strong petroleum engineering skills and experience of monitoring and managing ESP performance is desirable.  
  • Track record of proactively proposing and implementing successful reservoir management and infill well recommendations.
  • Experience and detailed understanding of well operations, well tests and completions.
  • Knowledge (e.g. systems, software, procedures, regulations):
  • Fully competent reservoir engineer with classical reservoir engineering and petroleum engineering skills.
  • Up to date working knowledge of technical software including Eclipse, Petrel, Petroleum Experts (GAP, PVT, MBal, Prosper etc.) analytical tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with hydrocarbon resources estimation and reporting.
  • Systematic approach to uncertainty management and the ability to work with limited data.
  • Ability to work within the framework provided by company investment guidelines; appraise, concept, select, define and execute.
  • Good awareness of latest industry innovations.
  • Good understanding of drilling and production operations.
