Lead Well Intervention Engineer

Our Client, an Operator, based in Aberdeen is looking for a Lead Well Intervention Engineer on a long term contract basis.

The key objective of the role is to be the asset focal point for well interventions within the asset; this will be achieved through collaborating closely with the well interventions team, well integrity and drilling in Technical Services along with planning, finance, geoscience, field operations and performance and growth teams within the asset itself.

The role is primarily office-based with occasional visits offshore

Key Responsibilities

Production Management

Liaise closely with Well Interventions and Well Integrity teams along with Production Optimisation and Well Performance Leader, working with the metier HQ Production and Well Performance organisation to align practices where appropriate and provide feedback

Ensure adherence to the highest standards of health and safety in conformance with the Client’s policies and procedures

Opportunity Maturation Process

Provide input to the opportunity maturation process including:

  • Identification of opportunities and threats
  • Ranking and maturation of opportunities
  • Close out of opportunities and demonstration of value added
  • Lessons learned and knowledge sharing from executed opportunities

Responsible for identification of production optimisation opportunities with a focus on well interventions with priorities and justification

Execute studies for well intervention opportunities, managing related modifications and interventions conducted by Technical Services

Ensure preparation of clear, concise and comprehensive well intervention requests / WSOR documents and effective handover for detailed engineering and implementation

Provide asset support to ensure timely and effective delivery of projects/interventions

Ensure appropriate asset well engineering input to technical safety assessments, as required to progress opportunities

Responsible for liaising with Technical Services to ensure asset intervention requirements are clearly defined and included in the UK well intervention plan

Responsible for asset review and approval that asset objectives are being met in well intervention plans, risk assessments and written procedures to help safely and efficiently deliver production targets

Production Limits Optimisation

Responsible for input to Well Reviews and follow up of actions / opportunities generated from this (including shut-in wells)

Provide input to the wells choke within the asset choke model

Production Performance Tracking

Ensure communication and alignment between different entities (geoscience, drilling and wells)

Digital Production Optimisation Solutions

Technical input to development and implementation of digital solutions for production optimisation

Innovation

Benchmark against market and stay at forefront of innovation in production technology and intervention methods

Showcase mature assets as a test-bed for innovation (lower risk than testing on high value, early field life assets

Production Performance

Input to 2-year production optimisation plan

Work with well integrity to expedite derogation processes as appropriate        

Site Support

Provide technical support to site as required, acting as a liaison between Drilling and Wells, Geoscience and Field Operations regarding relevant operations such as production logging, gas lift valve change outs etc.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for input to the 2-year plan for well-related production optimisation and intervention activities, delivery of those activities and management of associated financial budget
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving that asset objectives are being met in well intervention engineering programs
  • Responsible for providing fit for purpose Statement of Requirements for diagnostic or repair of wells
  • Responsible for proactive teamwork with POP team and Technical Services Wells Functional Teams identifying and developing production improvement opportunities and statement of requirements
  • Participate in pre-job planning meetings with Well Operation Teams for assessments and risk mitigation
  • Provide asset technical and operational support during job execution
  • Responsible for conducting before and after well reviews and well stock evaluation
  • Capture and share lessons learned
  • Responsible for maximising the value to be gained from the optimisation budget
  • Responsible for asset input into WSOR and Well Intervention Requests
  • Provide the technical input for the requirement, justification and prioritisation of all well related interventions within the asset

 

 

Education, Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Degree in a relevant subject e.g. Petroleum/Mechanical/Chemical or equivalent

 

Experience:

  • Extensive Oil & gas experience with emphasis on Completions, Well Intervention, Well Integrity (and Field Operations).
  • Experience being directly involved with well intervention field operations (Slickline, Electric line, Coiled tubing, Pumping), practical experience

 

Technical Knowledge:

  • Good understanding of Completions, Well Intervention, Well Integrity (and Field Operations)
  • Solid well site experience of well intervention operations e.g. Slickline, Electric line, Coiled tubing, and pumping services (acidising/scale squeeze etc.)
  • Experienced in preparing SORs and writing well intervention procedures
  • Comprehensive knowledge of well design including tubing, casing and completion design
  • Knowledge of well and stress modelling in software packages
  • Knowledge of well intervention modelling
  • Understanding of economic analysis, able to provide high level cost estimates for well interventions
  • Demonstrable knowledge of UKCS field development and operating practices
