Commercial Analyst

Our client, an Operator based in Aberdeenshire, is currently recruiting for a Commercial Analyst – Gas on a 12 month contract basis.

The primary responsibility is for the sale and purchase of the company’s hydrocarbons, from initial availability (production or purchase) in-pipeline or at one of the UK beach terminals, through to redelivery and ultimate sale to customers. Both physical (shipping & hydrocarbon accounting), as well as financial (invoicing) activities are part of this scope. A second area of responsibility is the management, administration and operation of all the Company’s hydrocarbon related contracts covering gas, oil, NGL’s and hydrocarbon transportation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret all relevant production data, sales demands and shipping activity.
  • Carry out daily gas shipping tasks including nomination matching, selling uncommitted gas and buying gas, maintaining daily logs, etc. Maintain good communication with the Operation teams.
  • Optimise uncommitted gas sales whenever possible by maintaining good awareness of spot gas prices.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with operational and delivery aspects of commercial agreements including GSAs
  • Review and advise the Sales Lead and SB manager of modifications to Network Code or new regulations that would impact our position as a Shipper
  • Provide accurate and detailed information to assist with the formulation of commercial strategy and company objectives in relation to gas scheduling and NGL evacuation planning, e.g. SoP management/optimisation, gas purchase strategy during planned offshore shutdowns,
  • Ensure there is enough entry capacity on a day and provide input into the decision-making process on long term capacity purchases.
  • Provide out of office gas shipping cover on a fortnightly basis, back to back with the Sales Lead. Out-of-office cover includes providing 24-hour REMIT (Regulation on Wholesale Energy Markets Integrity and Transparency Article 4 of Regulation EC No 1227/2011) reporting for all of the company’s operated assets.
  • Provide cover for the Sales Lead whenever necessary
  • Provide assistance to the Environmental department in the purchasing of EU-ETS credits in order to maintain the company’s EU-ETS compliance.
  • Maintain a good awareness of the ‘wider picture’ with respect to other company activities to ensure activities meet overall company objectives and strategies, e.g. shutdown planning, gas terminal shutdowns.
  • Use innovative approaches to issues and problem-solving, identify and implement improvements to analytical and reporting processes in relation to gas planning.

Accountabilities:

  • Assimilate and interpret relevant production data, sales demand and shipping activity to achieve the maximum synergies between the upstream and downstream business and optimum economic advantage
  • Responsible for the short-term NFL forecasting
  • Responsible for all reporting of gas sales performance and market commentary
  • Ensure the Company’s position is fully represented within the downstream gas business
  • Ensure that the company
  • is compliant with all aspects of REMIT legislation including Phase 2 reporting
  • As a SOX control owner, you are responsible for performing, evidencing and documenting all assigned SOX controls required to achieve SOX compliance

Education, Qualifications & Experience

  • Honours degree in a relevant technical/commercial discipline
  • Relevant work experience
  • Relevant experience within a gas operations environment
  • Experience of gas trading environment
  • Ability to work under short term pressure
  • Potential to become a ‘specialist’ in commercial gas business
  • Good reputation within the company in the commercial gas business
